Patrick Paglen, MD
"I've been doing laser refractive surgery for the past nine years.During the past few years the technology has vastly improved and the procedure is extremely safe, I advise friends and family that the time has arrived. The outcomes are truly excellent." |
Background:
- Patrick Paglen, M.D., is a leading surgeon in the Permanente Medical Group. In 1980, he completed a fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He performs corneal transplants and corneal incisional surgery to reduce astigmatism. In 1996, he was one of the first Kaiser Permanente surgeons to become trained and certified in laser refractive surgery. He started the Laser Vision Correction program in Santa Rosa and has been performing Lasik and PRK for the past nine years. In 2002, he began a research study on Deep Lamellar Endothelial Keratectomy (DLEK) to correct corneal edema. The skills and experience he gained doing this procedure lead to him performing Deep anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) and also Deep Stromal Endothelial Keratectomy (DSEK). These new lamellar surgical procedures are replacing the traditional penetrating keratoplasty in the treatment of corneal disease, because they offer more rapid visual recovery and a safer post operative course.
- Dr. Paglen has more than 14 ophthalmic publications, most dealing with corneal and refractive surgery. He regularly lectures at medical meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- Dr. Paglen is an equestrian and a member of the Los Altos Hounds riding club and Red Rock Hounds of Reno, Nevada.
- Dr. Paglen is board certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
